Time Out’s UK Best Places to Visit 2023 has named some of the most underrated staycation spots around the UK. According to the research, all the destinations should definitely go on Britons’ staycation bucket lists.
Eastbourne topped the list of staycation destinations for 2023 and the gorgeous coastal town has plenty to offer.
Time Out said: “This coastal town might conjure up images of OAPs on coach holidays, pesky pebbles in your jelly shoes and hordes of tennis fans at Rothesay International, but Eastbourne is well on its way to becoming an established hub for creatives.
“The Towner Eastbourne, an eye-catching gallery sporting a vibrant mural by German artist Lothar Götz, has been selected as the official host of the 2023 Turner Prize, to tie in with the venue’s centenary year.”
The team also recommend tourists head out to the South Downs National Park to see some gorgeous English nature.
DON’T MISS
Time Out said: “Birmingham has long been bubbling away as the UK’s most underrated food destination.”
2023 will also mark the 20th anniversary of the city’s iconic Bullring shopping centre and the 10th anniversary of the Library of Birmingham.
Cardigan was the first Welsh spot on the hotlist and there are plenty of gorgeous beaches to explore there.
Time Out said: “West Wales remains criminally underappreciated, and charming Cardigan might be its finest spot.”
Huw Oliver, Time Out’s UK editor: “Rather than the usual hotspots, we want to highlight places, many of which are ludicrously underrated, which people don’t automatically think to go to.
“In all of the places on the list, you will find interesting things to see and do, eat and drink during the day and night, a friendly welcome and a community spirit which enables you to connect with locals and really get to know a place.
“We recommend that you definitely put one or more of these destinations on your travel list for next year.”
Glasgow was the highest rated Scottish destination on the hotlist while Edinburgh also made the top 10.
