Experts have used “colour theory” to try and find some of the whitest sand beaches in the world and uncovered one European gem which might have the whitest sand on the content. conducted an independent study using Google Maps image data of 200 beaches around the globe, analysed them to reveal their RGB colour code, and cross-referenced that with the colour code of the whitest shade of white.
While it might be near impossible to determine which beach on Earth has the whitest sand, the study is a good way to find some of the best options for sandy beach lovers.
The top two spots were taken by Tulum Beach in Mexico and Anse Source D’Argent in the Seychelles. However, a stunning beach in Greece took the third spot – making it the “whitest sand” beach in Europe.
Marmari Beach is nestled on the beautiful coastline of Kos and has been described as a “hidden gem” by previous visitors.
“Marmari Beach in Kos, Greece is third on the global rankings, with just 6.5 of a difference in its sand colour compared to the purest white,” said the CV Villas report.
The endless sandy beach of Marmari is located 20 km southwest of Kos Town and 5 km from Pyli. Visitors can expect sparkling blue Aegean waters and views of enchanting mountains in the distance.
In the summer, there are sun beds and umbrellas to hire, along with plenty of room to simply lay down a towel or blanket.
The charming village of Marmari is just a short walk from the beach, where you can find traditional tavernas and shops.
Having visited the beach earlier this month, one holidaymaker shared their thoughts to Tripadvisor, stating: “Incredible beach. Hidden gem. Sandy and kid friendly. Great hotel on the beach with a restaurant.” [SIC]
Another visitor claimed the water feels much warmer at Marmari than on the opposite side of Kos. They wrote: “A lovely, mainly sandy beach with waves and water that is warmer than the other side of the island. We parked nearer to the end at Ria’s beach where the sun beds were very comfortable and only €5 per bed!” [SIC]
The average flight time from the UK to Kos is just under four hours, though can vary depending on your departure airport.
